Welcome

Yin in the Yurt is a monthly community gathering designed to help you slow down, turn your attention inward, and reconnect with yourself in a warm and cozy yurt. Whether you’re looking to release tension, improve your mobility, or balance a busy schedule, Yin offers the perfect blend of mindfulness, movement, and rest.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative practice where postures are held for 3-5 minutes or longer.

The goal?

To gently stress and promote healing of the yin tissues of your body—ligaments, bones, joints, and large bands of connective tissue—while fostering awareness of your inner landscape and working with your breath to calm and settle your nervous system.

Unlike active styles of yoga, Yin is all about quiet, stillness, and surrender. It’s a functional practice that emphasizes how the pose feels rather than how it looks. Each posture is adapted to meet your body’s unique structure and needs, making it accessible for everyone, regardless of experience or flexibility.

While stillness and meditation based practices can be challenging for our very busy minds at first, there are many benefits to the practice if we stick with it, training our stillness muscles to get stronger over time.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest.

The Yurt

A Sacred Space for Healing and Connection

The yurt was built by a caring community and was created to be a sacred space of ceremony, celebration, and wellness offerings. Located in the Foothills outside of Priddis, it offers a calm and grounding space to explore your inner landscape.

The serene mountain backdrop amplifies the restorative and resilient qualities of yin yoga, making each practice feel deeply connected and transformative.

It’s the perfect setting to embrace stillness, rest, and tending to yourself.

"Stillness is not about focusing on nothingness; it's about creating an emotional clearing to allow ourselves to feel, think, dream, and question."

Frequently Asked Questions

help

1. Do I need to be flexible to do Yin yoga?

Nope! Yin is about being where you are—not where you think you "should" be. Using bolsters, blankets, blocks, or even changing the orientation of the poses, makes yin accessible, no matter your flexibility level.

How is Yin different from other types of yoga?

Yin is slower and focuses on holding poses for longer periods (2-5 minutes). Dynamic yoga styles (Yang) focus on the muscles, while Yin targets the deeper connective tissues and emphasizes stillness and rest.

What does “finding your edge” mean?

“Finding your edge” means softening into a pose until you feel a gentle stretch or tension, but not pain. It’s the sweet spot where you can stay present, breathe, and relax into the sensation without overdoing it.
