What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative practice where postures are held for 3-5 minutes or longer.
To practice Yin is to embody rest, stillness, and surrender. It's about exploring our inner landscape, yielding to the present moment, and accepting what is. Yin yoga helps cultivate these qualities—inviting us to listen, soften, and let go of resistance.
Yin is a functional practice that emphasizes how the pose feels rather than how it looks. Each posture is adapted to meet your body’s unique structure and needs, making it accessible for everyone, regardless of experience or flexibility.
While stillness and meditation based practices can be challenging for our very busy minds at first, there are many benefits to the practice if we stick with it, training our stillness muscles to get stronger over time.
"We don't use the body to get into the pose,
we use the pose to get into the body."
- Bernie Clark

What to Bring
To make your Yin practice as comfortable and supportive as possible, please bring:
- A yoga mat – The foundation of your practice. A thicker mat can add extra cushioning.
- A bolster or firm pillow – Great for support in seated and reclined poses.
- Two yoga blocks – Helpful for bringing the floor closer to you and creating ease in certain postures.
- A blanket – For warmth, comfort, and extra padding if needed.
- A strap or scarf – Useful for modifying poses and adding gentle support.
- Cozy layers – Yin yoga is a slower practice, and your body temperature may drop, so socks and a sweater can help.
Don’t have props? No worries! You can get creative with what you have at home—pillows, books, and belts all work as great alternatives.
